FIRE BRIGADE SUCCESSFULLY RESCUES AN ADULT FEMALE PERSON FROM A COLLAPSED PIT LATRINE

15.03.26-The Mpika Town Council Fire Brigade successfully rescued an adult female person who had fallen into a collapsed pit latrine near Mpika Urban Clinic.

The incident occurred yesterday at approximately 16:31 hours, when the Brigade received a distress call reporting that a person had fallen into a pit latrine in the vicinity of Mpika Urban Clinic. Upon receiving the report, a fire and rescue crew led by Christopher Silungwe was immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, the rescue team conducted a rapid scene assessment to determine the safest and most effective rescue approach. Following the assessment, the crew swiftly deployed appropriate confined space rescue techniques and successfully extricated the casualty from the pit latrine.

The casualty, an adult female, was safely rescued and immediately evacuated to Mpika Urban Clinic for medical attention and further evaluation.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the casualty had gone to answer the call of nature when the pit latrine structure collapsed under her weight, causing her to fall into the pit.

The Divisional Fire Officer for the Mpika Town Council Fire Brigade Mr. Mukonde has urged members of the community to exercise caution when using old or structurally weakened pit latrines, particularly during the rainy season, when wet ground conditions can compromise the stability of such structures.

Mr Mukonde has encouraged members of the public to regularly inspect and maintain their sanitation facilities to prevent similar incidents.

He has Further encouraged the public is reminded to promptly report emergencies to the Fire Brigade by contacting 0974 141 763, to enable swift and effective emergency response.
