Gardener who k!lled Lusaka West couple committed to High Court for trial

THE murderous gardener of Lusaka west who killed his employers because they owed him money has been committed to the Lusaka High Court for trial.

Godfrey Phiri, 34, of Lusaka’s Kalundu township, is facing two counts of murder.

Phiri is, between November 19 and 22, 2022, alleged to have murdered Bernard Chomba and his wife Bwalya Chileshe for non payment of his wages for three months.

Phiri, had who had the charges explained to him by magistrate Kaunda Sakawanda, could not take plea as murder is tried by only the High Court.

The couple was found in a decomposed state 30 metres from their house, after it went missing for three days.

Phiri walked away with the couple’s motor vehicle, a television set, a fridge and their gadgets and left their house disorganised.

The items were later recovered by the police, following the apprehension of Phiri after he led them to the truck driver who was hired to ferry the furniture.

Under police interrogation, Phiri said he k#lled the couple because they had not paid his salary for three months.
