Girl, 17, takes poison battling for her life

Police are investigating a case in which a 17-year-old girl of Garden Township in Lusaka allegedly poisoned herself after the mother of her friend who has been missing since March 30, 2024 took her to her house for questioning to know the whereabouts of her daughter.

The victim, Faith Mutale Mubanga, is battling for her life in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at University Teaching Hospitals (UTH).

Zambia Police Service spokesperson Rae Hamoonga yesterday confirmed the incident, which occurred on Monday, April 1 around 18:00 hours in Garden Township.

He said police at Emmasdale Police received a report from the victim’s mother, Clara Mulenga, that her daughter had consumed poison at her friend Gift Banda’s home.
