The Zambia Police Service and Zambia Railways have confirmed this accident.
According to Deputy Police Spokesperson Danny Mwale, investigations revealed that Kapenda was walking along the railway line at the time, wearing headphones and absorbed in the music from his cellphone.
This distraction prevented him from hearing the train’s warning signals, ultimately leading to the fatal collision.
At the accident scene, authorities found Kapenda’s headphones and cellphone.
Tragically, he sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead upon arrival at the University Teaching Hospital.
His body is currently in the UTH mortuary, awaiting a postmortem examination.
In response to this unfortunate incident, the police have launched an inquiry.
This serves as a somber reminder of the critical importance of safety around railway lines and the potential dangers posed by distractions, such as listening to music, in close proximity to train tracks or roads.
