GOVERNANCE AND DEVELOPMENT ADVOCATES ZAMBIA (GODAZA) CALLS FOR RECOGNITION OF WOMEN AS KEY SOCIO-ECONOMIC DRIVERS
Press Release
8th March 2026
Governance and Development Advocates Zambia (GODAZA) has joined the rest of the world in commemorating International Women’s Day, with a call for increased recognition of women as key drivers of socio-economic development.
GODAZA Executive Director, Mr. Elias Mulenga, has honored women for their exceptional commitment to driving change not only in homes, marriages, families, and communities, but also in national development.
Mr. Mulenga noted that women deserve a seat at governance and decision-making platforms if tangible gender equality is to be achieved.
He further hailed the prevailing political will in advancing women’s leadership as demonstrated by Republican President Mr. Hakainde Hichilema through the recently enacted Bill 7, which seeks to allocate more leadership opportunities for women.
Mr. Mulenga said such progressive developments should be supported and embraced if women are to make a significant contribution to transforming society.
He also emphasized the need to confront pressing challenges affecting women, particularly Gender-Based Violence (GBV), which he said undermines the promotion and protection of women’s rights and must be decisively addressed.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mulenga has challenged women to continue being agents of positive change by refraining from engaging in societal vices such as excessive alcohol consumption, and instead serving as role models for young women and girls who represent the country’s future social fabric.
He reaffirmed GODAZA’s commitment to advocating for policies and initiatives that promote women’s empowerment and inclusive Development.
