The Government has commissioned and officially handed over infrastructure projects and heavy earth-moving equipment worth K21,401,276.18 in Lupososhi District, in what has been described as a major milestone toward rural development and improved service delivery.
The commissioning ceremony took place on 16th May, 2026, and featured the handover of key community projects aimed at improving health, education, and road connectivity in the district through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Among the major projects commissioned is a newly constructed maternity wing in Mulala Chiefdom, which is expected to greatly improve maternal healthcare by allowing women to access services closer to home instead of walking long distances to health facilities.
Government also handed over a new 1×2 classroom block at Lwenge Primary School, a development expected to enhance access to education and improve the learning environment for pupils in the area.
Speaking during the event, Northern Province Acting Permanent Secretary Ms. Beauty Undi-Phiri said the projects represent the fulfillment of President Hakainde Hichilema’s vision of ensuring that development reaches all parts of Zambia through decentralization.
Ms. Undi-Phiri further highlighted that the investment includes the delivery of vital road and construction machinery such as a grader, tipper truck, roller compactor, excavator, and a water bowser truck, equipment which will help the district improve its feeder road network.
She stated that the earth-moving equipment will play a critical role in rehabilitating roads that support agriculture, trade, and economic growth in rural communities.
“The new earth-moving equipment will be pivotal in rehabilitation works for the district’s feeder road network, which serves as the backbone for agricultural productivity and economic growth,” she said.
Ms. Undi-Phiri added that the K21.4 million investment is meant to restore hope, improve rural connectivity, and ensure that the benefits of economic transformation are felt directly at household level.
Meanwhile, Sub-Chief Mulala of Mulala Chiefdom praised President Hichilema’s administration for prioritizing development in the area, noting that the leadership has demonstrated fairness by ensuring that no region is left behind in the distribution of national resources.
The traditional leader said the newly commissioned projects will have a lasting positive impact on the lives of people in his chiefdom.
The statement was issued by Mrs. Sandra M. Siasiya, Principal Public Relations Officer for Northern Province.
