Government through the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services,has flagged off the distribution of farming inputs for Wetlands Farming Component for the 2023 agriculture season, under the Food Security Pack Programme (FSP).

This empowerment programme introduced in 2003 as a social safety net, targets poor and vulnerable, but viable farmer households, who had lost their productivity assets due to recurrent unfavourable and adverse climatic conditions.

Acting Minister of Community Development and Social Services, Mr. Collins Nzovu, who spoke in a speech read on his behalf, by Central Province Minister, Mr. Credo Nanjuwa, emphasized that government is therefore keen to reduce poverty and vulnerability by implementing alternative food production interventions.

“To enhace transparency,efficiency and accountability in the implementation of various social protection programmes, my Ministry is currently engaging with stakeholders to automate the process. Further, the Zambia Intergrated Social Protection Information System (ZISPIS),which is the anchor for Social Cash Transfer, will be expanded to include other programmes” Mr Nzovu said.

He said government recognizes that most of the poor individuals and households are in need of social protection interventions to improve their welfare through the provision of various social protection programmes such as the Social Cash Transfer,Public Welfare Assistance Scheme,Women Empowerment,Food Security Pack,among others.

And Chief Liteta of the Lenje speaking people, is happy with government’s food security agenda,which he said is working very well coupled with the decentalization policy that has resulted in empowerment of people in his chiefdom.

He called for hardwork and transparency among the beneficiaries of various support from government to promote both domestic and national food security.
