Ministry of Community Development and Social Services Permanent Secretary Angela Kawandami says Standard Operating Procedures are being put in place to scale up Shock Responsive Social Protection (SSRSP) delivery in Zambia.

Ms. Kawandami noted that once finalized, the Standard Operating Procedures will enable Government to effectively and efficiently deliver Shock Responsive Social Protection.

She has since called for concerted efforts from relevant stakeholders in order to come up with detailed Standard Operating Procedures that will respond to shocks and risks.

The Permanent Secretary said this when officials from the World Bank paid a courtesy call on her to update her on the outcomes of the mission and agree on ways forward of the Technical Assistance Mission to Advance the Shock Responsive Social Protection Agenda under the Scaling up Shock Responsive Social Protection (SSRSP) Project.

The issues brought out in the update comprised the need for inclusion of Shock Responsive in the National Social Protection Policy; Scalability Framework with regards to shock responsive Social and institutionalization of Government led Shock Responsive Social Protection task force.

“We need all stakeholders to play their role and remain resolute to ensure that social protection is shock responsive,” Ms. Kawandami said.

Meanwhile, Ms. Kawandami thanked the World Bank for its continued technical and financial support to Government and the Ministry specifically.

And World Bank Senior Social Protection Specialist Nadia Selim commended Government for its various shock response mechanisms.

Ms. Selim also appreciated progress being made by the Ministry of Community Development and Social Protection towards Scaling up of Shock Responsive Social Protection and pledged continued support to the Ministry.
