Minister of Infrastructure and Urban Development Eng. Collins Nzovu says Government is committed to lead on environmental sustainability and cleaner transport.

Speaking in Lusaka during the launch of SANY commercial trucks, he said the event marked the beginning of a partnership for Zambia’s infrastructure and transport sector.

Eng. Nzovu noted that the partnership between SANY and Pilatus would support job creation and sustainable, green national development under the Grow Zambia agenda.

He advanced that Zambia’s central location made efficient transport critical for moving maize, copper and soya beans to markets.

He said that the introduction of electric commercial vehicles was a milestone for the Zambian market.

Eng. Nzovu elevated the Presidential directive on cleaner transport, affirming that Government departments and ministries would procure electric motor vehicles going forward.

He emphasised that the directive positioned the Government to lead the private sector by supporting charging stations and electric mobility.

He said that SANY trucks had reportedly driven 800 kilometres on a single charge and could charge within five minutes.

Eng. Nzovu noted that financing partnerships established by SANY and Pilatus would encourage continued investment in Zambia.

He advanced that the market was open and that Zambia was a peaceful country for private-sector investment.

He emphasised that local partnerships should empower local businesses and strengthen the transport industry.

Eng. Nzovu affirmed that the launch should be the beginning of a partnership that upgrades Zambia’s infrastructure and transport sector while creating jobs and advancing the Grow Zambia agenda.

Meanwhile, Sany Heavy Industry Company Regional General Manager – Africa Key Account Marketing Company Vincent Wang said the company was seeking to deepen its presence in Zambia’s commercial truck market through a local dealership partnership and would offer both diesel and electric options tailored to customers’ operating conditions.

Wang said Sany’s trucks were not just machines but part of the customer’s workforce, and the company’s responsibility was to provide solutions that improved efficiency and productivity and helped businesses move forward.

He described Sany as a global manufacturer of heavy equipment and commercial vehicles committed to engineering excellence, technical innovation and customer value.

Wang said the partnership with the company’s official Zambian dealer, a local engineering firm, would bring Sany’s diesel and electric commercial trucks closer to the Zambian market.

He said the partnership demonstrated Sany’s confidence in Zambia and its commitment to build a strong, long-term presence in the country.

Wang said the introduction of electric commercial trucks was one of the most exciting developments and marked an important step toward new possibilities for commercial transportation in Zambia.

He said the development showed how technical innovation could help businesses consider alternative solutions for improving operational efficiency and managing energy costs.

Wang added that diesel trucks would continue to serve customers, while electric vehicles would offer new options where operating conditions, charging infrastructure and business economics were suitable.

He said Sany’s ambition was to work with Zambian businesses to identify the right solutions for their needs, meeting today’s needs while preparing for tomorrow’s opportunities.
