GOVERNMENT TO WORK ON BATOKA – MAAMBA ROAD – DC

Government has awarded a contract to improve the Batoka – Maamba Road in Sinazongwe District, Southern Province. 

Sinazongwe District Commissioner Nchimunya Siakole said the contractor has confirmed to start working soon.
 
The Sinazongwe District Commissioner said President Hakainde Hichilema is determined to take development to all parts of the Country. 

Mr. Siakole said the Batoka-Maamba road is important as it facilitates the movement of goods, including coal from Maamba Collieries and other mines. 

“A well-maintained road ensures smoother transportation, benefiting businesses and industries,” he said. 

Mr. Siakole said as a major route, Batoka-Maamba road connects communities, towns, and cities by playing a vital role in linking Maamba and surrounding areas to essential services, markets, and employment opportunities.

He said Maamba Collieries is a significant coal producer, and its operations rely on efficient transportation of which a functional road ensures uninterrupted supply chains for energy production.

Mr. Siakole said the road passes through scenic landscapes, including the Batoka Gorge of which improving its condition would enhance tourism potential, attracting visitors and boosting local economies.

“Under agriculture, access to markets and agricultural inputs depends on road connectivity. Farmers can transport their produce efficiently, contributing to food security and livelihoods. Therefore, rehabilitating the Batoka-Maamba road is essential for economic growth, regional development, and the well-being of communities in the area,” he said.
