PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has urged employees to embrace the culture of hard work so that the economy can be rebuilt under difficult times.

Officiating at this year’s Labour Day celebrations in Solwezi yesterday, President Hichilema said Zambians should learn to be productive instead if queuing up to get free money as it was in the last regime.

This year’s International Labour Day was held under the theme “building resilience; workers at the heart of Zambia’s economic recovery.”

The President stated that his Government will not tolerate the spirit of laziness to please the masses.

“I know when I ask Zambians to work hard they keep quiet and look down because they were used to tantameni (queuing up for free money),” revealed President Hichilema.

“Tantameni will not recover our economy. Tusaka twandalama (bags of free money) will never recover our economy. It is work, work and more hard work.”

The Head of State encouraged workers to be willing to learn if their skills are inadequate.

President Hichilema also called upon employers to improve the conditions of service for their employees if they are to see productivity.

“The employers must take care of the workers so that the workers can be more productive at work,” he advised.

He said employers must always invest their profits in order to attract more money for their company.
