A 35-year-old hospital worker has been arrested for allegedly stealing medicines from Chama District Hospital.

He’s arrested alongside another man who was part of the deal.

Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Kaunda Mubanga has named the suspects as Leonard Mfune and Boyd Chileshe Kaunda.

It’s alleged Mr Mfune, a handyman, took advantage of the situation when he was sent to collect drugs for dispensary from the storage on Monday morning.

The men are accused of stealing “assorted medicines ranging from gentamicine injection BP 01 bottles, coartem 30×12 tablets, hormonal contraceptive 3×28 tablets, paracetamol 01 pack, triclofem deprovera 01, disposable syringe 03 and water for injection 04.”
The two men were turned into the hospital administration by a man who agreed to buy the medicines at K360.
The Police Commissioner said in statement that Boyd Chileshe Kaunda was dragged into the case as an accomplice who was assigned to look for a buyer.
The value of the drugs is yet to be ascertained.

Mr Mfune as been a handyman for about 18 years at the hospital.
