GOVT INCREASES EMERGENCY CASH TRANSFERS AMIDST DROUGHT

Government has increased the number of Emergency Cash Transfers beneficiaries to more than 720, 000 additional new households.

Community Development and Social Services Minister Doreen Mwamba said this was in response to the drought situation which has affected vulnerable households across the country.

Ms. Mwamba said the Ministry is currently undertaking a national assement and enumeration to determine strategies and response measures to drought.

She noted that Government is aware of the hardships faced by many families in the wake the drought and has since urged community members to participate in identifying beneficiaries.

She said this when she paid a courtesy call on Copperbelt Province Minister Elisha Matambo in Ndola District.

“The disbursement of these Emergency Cash Transfers is testament to Government’s dedication to the well being of all citizens,” Ms. Mwamba said.

And Mr. Matambo has praised the Ministry for effective implemention of the social protection programmes.

“The Ministry is doing well, it is the backbone of Government because it deal with vulnerable people in our communities.

Ms. Mwamba is in Copperbelt Province to check on various social protection programmes being implemented in the Province and also officiate at this year’s Labour Day commemoration in Kalulushi District.

In Ndola, she visited Insakwe Child Approved Centre which houses girls who come in contact with the law.

She also witnessed rural payments of Social Cash Transfer (SCT) and toured Village of Joy Childcare facility in Kaniki area.
