Government has reiterated its concern over civil servants who are actively participating in partisan politics, warning that such conduct is contrary to the public service code of ethics and may result in disciplinary action, including dismissal.
Speaking at a media engagement in Lusaka this afternoon, Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana said civil servants who choose to engage in active politics risk losing their appointments and should not expect any support from government if action is taken against them.
When asked whether government would take action against Zambia’s Ambassador to South Korea Andrew Banda, who has publicly declared support and campaigned for President Hakainde Hichilema in the ongoing election campaign, Mr. Kawana declined to comment but instead reiterated that government remains concerned about civil servants engaging in active politics.
