HERDSMAN ESCAPE DEATH.

April 28, 2024 – A herdsman survived with injuries after he was hit by a Goods Train in Mkushi District, Central Province.

He was hit together with three heads of cattle today, April 28, 2024 around 04:00 hours in Mkushi’s Kasamakana area along the TAZARA Railway line.

The injured victim was identified as Clement Musonda aged 18 of Musofu area in Mkushi District.

He sustained a fractured right leg. Two animals died on the spot while the other sustained fractured rear legs.

Police officers who rushed to the scene found Clement lying in the nearby bush about 20 meters from the railway line.

Police investigations indicate that the victim, who was together with two other herdsmen, were moving their cattle from Luanga area to Musofu using the Railway line.

When the Goods Train was approaching from Kapiri-Mposhi moving towards Serenje District, the herdsmen failed to move the animals out of the Railway line. Two of the herdsmen managed to move to safety while Clement, who remained close to the Railway line in order to save the animals, was hit together with the animals causing him to sustain a fractured right leg.

He was rushed to Mkushi District Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.
