IBA directs Multichoice Zambia to suspend Lusaka Hustle reality show

The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has directed Multichoice Zambia to, with immediate effect, suspend the Lusaka Hustle Reality Show on Zambezi Magic on the DSTV platform.

According to a statement issued by IBA Director Josephine Mapoma, the move follows public outcries that the Lusaka Hustle show promotes a lifestyle contrary to the Zambian values and culture.

Ms. Mapoma, says IBA has received several comments from the public concerning the show in question and as such , has directed Multichoice Zambia to withdraw the Lusaka Hustle Reality Show in the public interest.

“Section 24 (1) of the IBA (Principal) Act, 2002 povides, “All programmes by a commercial broadcasting service shall, subject to the conditions of a license and regulations of the authority-(a) reflect the culture, character, needs, and aspirations of the people in the areas that they are licensed to serve”.

But Zambezi Magic Television defended local TV personalities Kuni, Cleo Ice Queen and Thandi, for allegedly promoting homosexuality on a local reality programme dubbed “Lusaka Hustle”.

Head of Zambezi Magic Timothy Okwaro, in a post made on Zambezi Magic official Facebook page and seen by ZED GOSSIP says “Lusaka Hustle is a locally produced reality show which follows the lives of three Zambian celebrities who regularly appear on television. The suggestion that the show advocates or promotes any particular lifestyle is an unfair misrepresentation”. He added that Zambezi Magic is deeply respectful of Zambian laws and culture.

Mr. Okwaro, further expressed dismay at all well meaning Zambians who have accused the station and presenters of promoting homosexuality. Read More
