The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has issued a strong warning to broadcasters following the shutdown of four radio stations on the Copperbelt by the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority.

The affected stations were reportedly switched off after their transmissions interfered with aircraft communication and navigation systems — a situation authorities say poses a serious risk to safety, especially in aviation.

IBA Director General Webster Malido stressed that such incidents cannot be taken lightly, warning that all broadcasters must strictly follow technical standards and licence conditions to avoid similar action.

Broadcasters have now been urged to regularly check and maintain their equipment, while working closely with technical experts. IBA says it remains committed to supporting stations, but insists compliance is not optional.
