Zambia’s Inspector General of Police Graphael Musamba has clarified that ongoing security risk assessments being conducted by the Zambia Police Service and other security agencies are not targeting any particular individual or political grouping.
Musamba said the operations are intelligence-led and preventive in nature, with the primary objective of identifying and addressing potential security vulnerabilities at critical Government premises.
In a media statement, the Inspector General explained that the assessments are being conducted at selected premises under the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security.
The ongoing security reviews also cover premises housing the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) and the Attorney General’s Chambers, among other critical Government facilities.
According to Musamba, the exercise forms part of routine security measures aimed at strengthening the protection of Government institutions, public officers and members of the public.
He stressed that the operations are being conducted professionally and within the law, with the Zambia Police Service working in coordination with other security agencies.
Musamba further dismissed suggestions that the security assessments were directed at specific individuals or political organisations.
“The operations are not targeted at any individual or political grouping,” the Inspector General said, emphasising that the main purpose is to identify possible weaknesses and strengthen security at important Government facilities.
The clarification comes as security agencies continue conducting assessments at selected Government premises as part of efforts to enhance preparedness and protection.
Musamba has urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel during the exercise.
He also called on citizens and individuals accessing the affected premises to comply with security instructions issued by officers.
The Inspector General said the exercise remains ongoing and that the Zambia Police Service will provide further information as it becomes available.
The latest clarification is expected to provide reassurance amid public interest surrounding the security checks, with authorities maintaining that the exercise is preventive and focused on protecting critical Government infrastructure rather than pursuing political or individual targets.
