Immigration Pounce on Sunzu’s Family, Picks Up Father

Zambian international and 2012 AFCON hero Stophila Sunzu’s family were paid an unexpected visit by Immigration Officers and took into custody the soccer star’s father, Felix, on allegations that he is Congolese and living in the country illegally.

The News Diggers reports that Immigration Officers raided the Sunzu family house few hours after midnight at and picked up Felix Sunzu Snr, also a former footballer, much to the shock of his family and neighbours.

Meanwhile, Home Affairs Minister, Jack Mwiimbu has expressed shock at the event as Sunzu is a well acclaimed national hero.

He however, could not make and informed statement as he at the time had limited information about the matter.

The Sunzus are known to be a footballing family with the father, Felix Snr, originally from the DR Congo, having played as a goalkeeper for Konkola Blades in the 90s.

Stophila who took the winning penalty when the Chipolopolo won their maiden AFCON crown in Gabon back in 2012, was born in Chingola and has represented Zambia at a number of major international competitions.

Apart from Stophila who currently features for Chinese Super League club Cangzhou Mighty Lions, his elder Felix Jr, also a footballer, now retired, represented Zambia and has 14 international caps.

The Sunzus’ youngest brother Ngosa, currently playing for FK Teplice in the Czech Republic, also represented Zambia internationally including at the 2017 U-20 FIFA World Cup.
Borniface playing for Green Eagles in the Super League and Jackson who is with Konkola Mine Police, are among other known footballers in the Sunzu family.
