KAFUE COUNCILOR DEMANDS K1,000,000 FROM TWO UPND OFFICIALS FOR DEFAMING HIM

MUNGU Ward Councilor Kelly Liwanga has demanded K1, 000 ,000 from Kafue District UPND Chairman Clifford Mwaba and a ruling party sympathizer Mungeli Makungu for allegedly defaming him.

According to a demand letter by Liwanga’s Lawyers, K Mwale and Company, the civic leader who is also Kafue District UPND Secretary is seeking damages for defamation.

“We act for Kelly Liwanga (our client) who has instructed as to contact you in connection with the above captioned matter.
Our client is a Businessman and Politician who has gained the respect of the community and has spent his life building a positive reputation.
Nevertheless we have been informed that you did cause to be published an article alleging the same, which article is spreading malicious allegations that are damaging to our client’s personal character.
We advise that under the Laws of Zambia and specifically Defamation Act Chapter 68, it is illegal to publish false statement that intend to harm the reputation of a person without factual evidence or evidence based on hearsay” read part of the letter.

Liwanga’s Lawyers have given Mwaba and Makungu 48 hours in which to retract the alleged falsehoods and pay Liwanga K1, 000,000 each failure to which they will commence legal proceedings in the High Court.

Last week , a malicious story was spread on Social Media alleging that Liwanga had defrauded Kafue Town Council K58 Million from sale of 167 plots.
