Citizens First party President Harry Kalaba has expressed grave concern over the continued detention of Mr Celestine Mukandila.
Mr Kalaba stated that the administrative revocation of Mr Mukandila’s passport and National Registration Card is a dangerous escalation in the weaponisation of State institutions.
He added that there is nothing wrong, in law or principle, with a person born outside Zambia being a citizen by descent, as the Constitution expressly recognises this.
Mr Kalaba observed that if the State can question such citizenship, it sends a troubling message to thousands of Zambians living abroad.
He noted that the purported revocation without lawful procedures or an opportunity to be heard constitutes an abuse of public power.
Mr Kalaba said that political differences must be confronted through debate and lawful processes, not through intimidation or selective enforcement.

He affirmed that President Hakainde Hichilema should follow the law and remember that his tenure is temporary.
Mr Kalaba urged the President to give Mr Mukandila a hearing and to stop declaring a man stateless for holding contrary political views.
He noted with appreciation the strong statements from the United Nations Special Rapporteur.
Mr Kalaba called upon the international community to go beyond statements and consider putting in place a crisis team for Zambia.
He reiterated the party’s demand for the unconditional release of all political detainees.
