Police in Northern Province have recovered several stolen household and electronic items linked to multiple house breaking and theft cases recorded in Kasama District.
Northern Province Police Commanding Officer Simunji Mulonda confirmed the development during a media briefing, stating that the successful recoveries were made possible through strong cooperation between the police and members of the public.
Mr. Mulonda praised residents and the media for continuously assisting law enforcement officers by reporting criminal activities and house breaking incidents affecting communities in Kasama.
He has since appealed to members of the public who may have lost property to visit Kasama Central Police Station and help identify the recovered items.
Meanwhile, Kasama Principal Criminal Investigations Officer Kemelson Mwasinga revealed that investigations began after police received an anonymous tip from a concerned resident regarding suspicious stolen goods.
According to Mr. Mwasinga, the investigations resulted in the arrest of seven suspects and the recovery of numerous valuable items believed to have been stolen from different areas within Kasama District.
The recovered property includes:
Eleven plasma television sets
One king-size foam mattress
Ten curtains in assorted colours
Two king-size bed mattresses
Four laptops
Two speakers
One DVD player
Six computer monitors
One deep freezer
Three computer processing units (CPUs)
Mr. Mwasinga further disclosed that some items have already been identified by their rightful owners, including three television sets, one curtain, one mattress, and one fridge.
Police investigations indicate that the recovered items were allegedly stolen from areas such as Mukulumpe, Newton, Central Town, and Mulenga Hills in Kasama.
Authorities have since encouraged victims of theft and burglary cases to cooperate with police as investigations continue and efforts intensify to return stolen property to owners.
