Lusaka bus driver dies from speeding accident

A 44-year-old bus driver, Given Lumani, has died today after losing control of his vehicle due to excessive speed on the Great North Road near Kabangwe.

Given Lumani, who operated within the Lusaka routes this morning was traveling to 10 miles as he rushed to pick his first customers of the day around 07:00 hours this morning.
Unfortunately, in trying to beat time he started speeding and failed to control the bus and subsequently collided with iron bars at Six miles round.

The incident saw him succumbing to fatal head injuries while the vehicle, a Toyota Hiace with registration number, BAX 1239 was significantly damaged which resulted into a shattered windscreen, grazed right side body, and a damaged drivers door.
The victim was later rushed to Chingwere Level One Hospital by onlookers but was declared dead upon arrival with his body being deposited in the same hospital’s mortuary pending postmortem and examination.

Zambia Police Service Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga confirmed the incident to Kalemba and said that Kabangwe Police Traffic is currently conducting an investigation into the matter to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
Hamoonga said that the Zambia Police Service Traffic Division remains committed to ensuring the safety of all citizens.
