Lusaka City Council Announces Partial Road Closures Ahead of Wonderful Group Marathon 2026

The Lusaka City Council has announced the partial closure of selected roads across Lusaka to pave way for the upcoming Wonderful Group Marathon 2026.

According to a public notice issued by the Council, the road closures will take effect from Saturday, 30th May 2026 to Sunday, 7th June 2026.

The notice advises motorists and members of the public to use alternative routes, drive cautiously, and obey all temporary traffic signs and signals that will be placed during the marathon period.

Some of the major roads that will experience partial closures include:

Cairo Road
Independence Avenue
Burma Road
Chitukuko Road
Brentwood Drive
Leopards Hill Road
Haile Selassie Road
Addis Ababa Road
Nationalist Road
Church Road
Nasser Road
Lubuto Road
Lagos Road
Tokyo Way
Government Road
Jacaranda Road

The Council stated that the temporary measures are necessary to accommodate activities linked to the Wonderful Group Marathon 2026, which is expected to attract participants and spectators from different parts of the country.

Lusaka Residents Urged to Plan Ahead

Motorists have been encouraged to plan their movements early to avoid delays and traffic congestion during the marathon week.

The Lusaka City Council further apologized for any inconvenience the road closures may cause to businesses, commuters, and residents.

The public notice was signed by Town Clerk Eng. Liftery Ndaba and stamped by the Office of the Town Clerk on 27th May 2026.

Marathon Expected to Boost Activity in Lusaka

The Wonderful Group Marathon is expected to bring increased activity to the city, with road users advised to remain alert throughout the event period.

Traffic officers and other relevant authorities are expected to help manage vehicle movement and ensure public safety along the affected routes.
