A Lusaka hairdresser has been sentenced to eight months imprisonment after she was found guilty of impersonating a nurse and unlawfully attempting to practice nursing without qualifications.

According to ZNBC News, the woman abandoned her hairdressing profession and allegedly decided to pursue nursing illegally, despite not having the necessary training, certification or authorization to work in the medical field.

The court heard that the convict appeared at a local clinic dressed in a nurse’s uniform, an act that raised suspicion and led to her arrest.

Authorities later established that she was not a qualified nurse and had no legal permission to perform any medical duties.

The court subsequently convicted her and sentenced her to eight months in prison, warning that impersonating health workers is a serious offence that puts the lives of patients at risk.

The case has sparked debate online, with many Zambians condemning the act and calling for strict punishment for anyone found pretending to be a medical professional.
