A tragic domestic violence incident has rocked Lusaka after a 45-year-old man allegedly shot and killed his wife and her younger brother before taking his own life.

The incident occurred after the woman had recently reported her husband to police over alleged domestic violence.

The deceased have been identified as Theresa Nyambe, 43, and her younger brother, Innocent Nyambe, 39. The suspected shooter has been identified as Clifford Chileshe, 45.

Wife Had Reported Domestic Violence to Police

According to preliminary information released by the Zambia Police Service, Theresa Nyambe reported her husband for alleged domestic violence at Kanyama Police Station on July 6, 2026.

Police issued her with a medical report form to facilitate a medical examination.

Two days later, on July 8, she returned to the station’s Victim Support Unit (VSU) regarding the same matter.

Brother Accompanied Sister Home

After leaving the police station, Theresa reportedly returned to the couple’s residence accompanied by her younger brother, Innocent Nyambe.

Preliminary investigations indicate that shortly after they arrived, the suspect allegedly opened fire.

Police believe Innocent Nyambe was shot first before Theresa Nyambe was shot outside the house.

Authorities say the suspect then went back inside the house, where he allegedly turned the gun on himself.

Police Recover Firearms

Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi confirmed that officers who attended the scene recovered eight spent cartridges.

Investigators also recovered two firearms believed to have been used during the incident.

The weapons have been identified as:

A CANIK pistol
A Millennium G2 pistol

Both firearms have been secured and will undergo forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigations.

Investigations Continue

The Zambia Police Service says investigations into the incident are continuing to establish all the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Authorities have not yet released additional information regarding the ownership or licensing status of the recovered firearms.

Domestic Violence Remains a Serious Concern

The incident has once again highlighted the dangers associated with domestic violence and the importance of seeking help before disputes escalate.

Police continue to encourage victims of domestic abuse to report incidents promptly and seek assistance through the Victim Support Unit (VSU) and other available support services.

Investigations into the triple tragedy are ongoing, and police say further details will be communicated as more information becomes available.
