Lusaka tops in GBV cases

Lusaka province has once again recorded the highest numbers in Gender Based Violence (GBV) cases.

According to statistics released by the Zambia Police, the province recorded 2,278 GBV criminal – related cases followed by Western province that recorded 988 cases.

In addition, the capital city equally got the biggest chunk in child defilement cases at 234 and was followed by its sister province the Eastern which recorded 100 reported cases.

Meanwhile, a countrywide total of 9,700 GBV cases have been recorded during the period under review compared to 10,979 cases recorded last year during the same period.

Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga says the figure under review indicates a reduction of 1,097 cases.

He says out of the total number recorded, 6,966 were recorded as criminal cases while 2,743 were non-criminal.

He adds that 1,485 men were victims of GBV.
