A 72-YEAR-OLD polygamist from Mafinga, Muchinga Province, accused of practicing witchcraft, has tragically met his end, being axed to death by unknown assailants while asleep in his house.

Muchinga Province police deputy commanding officer, Ronald Zambo, disclosed that Gibson Mwandila, a resident of Chapamutembo village, met his untimely demise on Tuesday night.

Mr. Mwandila, who had two wives, used to sleep in a separate house before his brutal murder.

Mr. Zambo recounted that Mr. Mwandila’s first wife heard her husband’s cries for help at around 22:00 hours on Tuesday.

She then spotted two men fleeing from her husband’s residence and promptly summoned her son to investigate.

Upon inspection, the wife and son discovered Mr. Mwandila’s lifeless body, prompting them to report the gruesome incident to the Community Crime Prevention Unit (CCPU).

CCPU officers, in turn, informed the police and proceeded to the crime scene, where they discovered Mr. Mwandila in a pool of blood with a severe head wound.

Mr. Zambo indicated that the police suspect the murder weapon to be an axe, but the motive behind the killing remains shrouded in mystery, despite earlier accusations of witchcraft leveled against the victim.
