A 66-year-old man from Kaleya Sugar CDC in Mazabuka district has been arrested for defiling his 12-year-old stepdaughter.

Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, says the incident is believed to have happened at unknown dates and time but between November 2022 and August 2023.

Daka explains to Byta FM Zambia that in November 2022, Micheal Hachilala had carnal knowledge of the victim on her bed as she was preparing for church while her mother was away in Lusaka and the children were left in the suspect’s custody.

He narrates that the second time, the victim went to her mother’s bedroom to get cooking oil when her stepfather followed her, pushed her on the bed and defiled her as he warned her not to disclose to anyone what happened.

Daka states that on 12th October, 2023, the victim informed her mother that she was sexually abused on two occasions, which led to the arrest of the suspect.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner adds that Police are looking for a man identified as Jonathan Chooma who is currently on the run for defiling the victim in a separate incident, although it is believed he was in a relationship with the girl.
