A 25-year-old man from Lusaka has drowned in a swimming pool at a lodge in Kafue District.
Zambia Police Spokesperson CHIPO KAITISHA has confirmed the incident in a statement, identifying the deceased as CHIBUYE MUDENDA of Ngwerere in Lusaka.
Ms. KAITISHA said the incident happened around 23:40 hours on Friday, October 30, after the man and his girlfriend reportedly went swimming upon returning from an outing.
She said the girlfriend, 27-year-old MAPALO CHIPILI, reportedly left the swimming pool to use the bathroom, leaving the man swimming alone.

Ms. KAITISHA said when the woman returned, she discovered that her boyfriend had drowned and subsequently reported the matter to police.
She said police officers visited the scene, retrieved the body from the swimming pool and conducted a physical examination, which revealed no visible injuries.
Ms. KAITISHA said the body has since been taken to Kafue General Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination.
She said police have opened an inquiry file and investigations into the incident are continuing.
