A HEAD man from Bubala Village in Monze’s Choongo Chiefdom is on the run after he allegedly shot his 26-year-old niece over a land dispute.

The victim, Martha Chingwele, reported the incident at Monze Central Police Station on Sunday, identifying her assailant as Bodwin Hamunkombo.

The suspect visited the house of his cousin, Dyna Twaambo, mother to the victim, with the view to attend a meeting concerning a land dispute between Nakusodwa Chikuni and Pimbi Muzoka, both of Kajamba Village.

Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, notes that when the suspect arrived, he went straight into the house leaving everyone outside and called for his niece, Chingwele.

Daka explains that whilst in the sitting room and before mentioning anything to his niece, she was shot on the left eye, with the victim shouting for help, prompting the uncle to run away.

He says no arrest has been made yet while the victim was referred from Monze Mission Hospital to the University Teaching Hospital-UTH in Lusaka for further treatment as a bullet is believed to be stuck in the head on the left eye side.
