Democratic Union president Ackim Antony Njobvu has called on artists to use their music to promote peace and unity in Zambia ahead of the crucial 2026 general elections.

Addressing choir groups in Lusaka’s George compound on Sunday, Njobvu emphasized the influential power of music, citing instances where songs have swayed voters in past elections.

Njobvu also made a monetary contribution to a singing competition featuring over 50 choir groups from pentecostal churches, underscoring the importance of peaceful elections.

Njobvu said this year’s election is crucial, hence, the need for all stakeholders, including artists to play their role in ensuring that there is peace in the country before, during and after the August election.

Music has historically played a significant role in Zambian elections, with politicians leveraging popular songs to mobilize support and convey their messages.

Studies show that well-composed political music can significantly influence voters, drawing crowds, selling candidates, and educating electorates.
