Former Minister of Community Development and Social Services and United Party for National Development (UPND) National Management Committee Member, Mrs Doreen Mwamba, has congratulated President Hakainde Hichilema on the nomination of five Members of Parliament drawn from persons with disabilities, women and young people.

Mrs Mwamba has described the nominations as a significant milestone towards advancing inclusive governance and ensuring that diverse voices are represented in Zambia’s national decision-making processes.

She has commended President Hichilema for what she described as the political will and commitment that have culminated in the development, saying the nominations demonstrate that inclusive governance can move from aspiration to reality.

Mrs Mwamba said the inclusion of persons with disabilities, women and young people in Parliament represents more than political appointments, but is an affirmation that every citizen, regardless of ability or age, has a role to play in shaping the country’s future.

“What may once have seemed like an aspiration or distant possibility has today become a tangible reality,” she said.

Mrs Mwamba said the development was a meaningful step towards building a more inclusive Zambia where diversity is recognised as a strength and no one is left behind.

She further congratulated all the nominees and urged them to use the opportunity to champion inclusion, equal opportunity and equitable participation while contributing meaningfully to national development.

Mrs Mwamba said the nominees have an important responsibility to advance a vision of Zambia where every citizen has an opportunity to participate in, contribute to and benefit from the country’s socio-economic development.

She has since expressed hope that the nominations will open more opportunities for groups that have historically been underrepresented in national institutions.

“May your service open even more doors for those who have long been underrepresented in our national institutions,” Mrs Mwamba said.
