Lusaka, Zambia – May 2026 – Olios Records, the management label behind Zambian music star Yo Maps, has issued a statement denying claims that they were contacted regarding the ongoing controversy surrounding the artiste’s latest music video titled “Budget.”

The clarification comes after a statement circulated on social media yesterday by Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM) President Brian Bwembya, in which ZAM claimed it had been engaging Yo Maps and his team concerning public concerns over certain scenes in the video.

Olios Records Responds to ZAM Statement

In response, Olios Records has now publicly refuted the claim, stating that neither the label nor Yo Maps has been directly contacted by anyone from the Zambian music industry about the video.

In an official statement, the label said:

“Olios Management wishes to state on record:
No one from the Zambian Music Industry has contacted Olios Management or Yo Maps directly concerning the Budget video.
We remain open to professional dialogue with all industry stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
Olios Management.”

Confusion as “Budget” Video Debate Continues

The “Budget” music video has attracted widespread attention online, with some members of the public expressing concern that certain scenes are culturally inappropriate and may negatively influence young viewers.

ZAM had earlier indicated that it was working together with the National Arts Council (NAC) to advise Yo Maps’ team on how to edit the video without affecting its performance on YouTube.

However, Olios Records’ response has now raised questions among fans and industry observers about whether communication truly took place between the parties.

Olios Says It Is Open to Dialogue

Despite denying being contacted, Olios Records emphasized that it remains open to engaging stakeholders and regulatory institutions in a professional manner.

The label’s statement suggests willingness to cooperate, but also signals dissatisfaction with what it sees as misinformation being shared publicly.

Social Media Reacts

Following Olios Records’ statement, social media users have been left divided, with some demanding clarity from ZAM, while others argue that the focus should remain on resolving the matter and ensuring content aligns with cultural expectations.

The development adds a new twist to what has become one of Zambia’s most talked-about entertainment controversies this year.

As the debate continues, many Zambians are now waiting to see whether ZAM will respond to Olios Records’ denial, and what the next step will be regarding the “Budget” video.
