OPPOSITION DEMOCRATIC UNION CONDEMN ATTACK ON HH

…as Njobvu calls for respect of Presidency

By Francis Chipalo

The opposition Democratic Union (DU) has strongly condemned the attack on President Hakainde Hichilema at Chiwemapala, Copperbelt province.

DU President Ackim Antony Njobvu has described the incident as unfortunate, and one that ought to be condemned.

Njonbu says his party does not believe in violence as a solution to airing grievances, adding that dialogue is always the right channel.

Njobvu has since called on the need to respect the office of the President regardless of the situation.

“As the Democratic Union, we would like to condemn the violence and attack on the Republican President when he was addressing people in Chiwempala. We do not support any type of violence against anyone and believe that all grievances must be resolved through dialogue,” he said.

The opposition leader has however observed that the incident raises serious concerns about the security of the President.

He also said the incident should be a lesson to office bearers that community matters must be resolved timely and conclusively.

It is my considered view that there is nothing political as alleged by some sections of society but merely a community matter(Sensele pits) that has not been resolved conclusively,” he added.
