People find wife killer attempting suicide after causing havoc with axe
FOUR Children are on the brink of becoming double orphans after their father, who was on the run for killing their mother attempted suicide.
According to reports, 36 year old Morris Simwaanda of Masasabi farming block in Itezhi-tezhi district, killed his estranged wife and axed her aunt because she did not want to return home.
Since the incident, he went on incognito mode fleeing from the sight of the public as police searched for him.
While the family continued the search, on Monday, afternoon, Simwaanda, was found slitting his throat like the common meal on Christmas.
Southern Province Police Commanding Officer, Auxensio Daka who confirmed the incident said the suspect’s wife, Mwiinga succumbed to her head cuts and died in hospital the same day around 17:00 hours.
Daka said that on the same day, after axing his wife and mother in law (wife’s Aunt) Simwaanda who ran away, later returned back to his matrimonial home and attempted to commit suicide.
Family members who were among the many people looking for him decided to go and search for him at his house and found him trying to buy a ticket to hell by cutting his throat using a knife.
Simwaanda was immediately stopped and transported to Itezhi-tezhi Police Station.
“There, it was observed that he was seriously injured prompting the police to take him to the hospital for treatment,” said Daka.
Daka said the suspect is currently admitted at a health facility under police guard while the deceased body was deposited in the mortuary awaiting postmortem examinations.
The couple had been on separation for a month due to marital disputes, causing Mwiinga to leave her home with their four children to start staying with her Aunt, Silva Muzyamba aged 56.
However, the day he committed the offence, he took some food stuff to his family at the in-laws place, and requested for his wife to return home but like the process of getting an American VISA, his application was not denied.
Instead of reapplying, the enraged Simwaanda waited for the night
and at the stroke of midnight, Saturday while everyone was asleep, a loud scream echoed through the compound.
It was the scream of Simwaanda’s 34-year-old wife who had just been hacked with an axe on the head.
Muzyamba woke up and went to check on her niece to only find her in-law, Simwaanda coming out of the hut with an axe on his shoulder.
Simwaanda is said to have transfered the aggression on Muzyamba in an attempt to conceal the truth and hacked her with the same axe and left her bleeding.
Following the incident, he ran away leaving his wife’s aunt screaming for help in attempts to save her niece who lay in a pool of blood.
Simwaanda is currently being treated so that he gets well to go behind bars.
