Permanent Secretaries have met to discuss the ratification of the protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights of citizens to social protection and social security.

The meeting focused on advocacy to popularise and have the protocol ratified in order to strengthen social security and pave way for transformative changes in society in order to promote social justice and inclusivity.

Speaking during the Permanent Secretary’s breakfast meeting, Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, Permanent Secretary, Ms. Angela Kawandami, said stakeholder collaboration is key in the collective mission to ensure that every citizen enjoys fundamental rights to social protection and security.

She acknowledged that the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights embeds core values that are instrumental in shaping social protection policies.

Ms. Kawandami appreciated the stakeholder collaboration and commitment, which she said will undoubtedly shape the trajectory of all efforts towards a more just and secure society.

And Civil Society for Poverty Reduction, Executive Director, Ms. Faides Temba Temba, appreciated all the efforts that have been done, and hoped the ratification process will be expedited, in order to lay a groudwork for a future where the rights of all citizens to social protection and security are upheld and safeguarded.

She said CSPR will support the process towards ratification and implementation of the protocol because social protection is key in transforming lives and giving people dignity and security.
