A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of the driver to an independent parliamentary aspirant in Chief Hanjalika’s area, Mazabuka District of Southern Province.

Provincial Police Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo says the victim, 31-year-old Stanley Sakala of Lusaka, was employed as the driver for an independent aspiring Member of Parliament Confucius Mweene in Magoye East Constituency.

Mr. Namalongo explains that Mr. Sakala was found dead inside his chalet at a campaign camp in Chivuna Village during the early hours of Tuesday.

He says preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect was the last person seen with the deceased before the incident.

Mr. Namalongo says officers who visited the scene found Mr. Sakala lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut to his throat.

He adds that the suspect is in police custody as investigations continue, while the body has been deposited at Mazabuka General Hospital Mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination.
