Police deputy chief behaved like a cadre – Njobvu

Democratic Union (DU) president Ackim Anthony Njobvu

Democratic Union President Ackim Antony Njobvu says deputy inspector geneal of police, Fred Hamaamba was careless in his statement and behaved like a cadre himself.

This is despite Hamaamba’s claims that the police service would not tolerate caderism under his leadership as 2nd in command for the Zambia police.

But contrary to his words, Hamaamba made a statement in Nakonde where he urged citizens to support President Hakainde Hichilema and the ruling party, describing HH as a visionary leader who requires full support from both citizens and state institutions.

His statement has however not settled well with the Democratic Union leader, describing it as unfortunate.

Njobvu said Hamaamba, being a civil servant should desist from issusing such statements where he is seen to be taking a partisan stance.

He said the police should be neutral as opposed to taking positions as exhibited by the police’ second in command.

The oppostion leader wondered as to whether the police would be fair in the discharge of duty with such statements from their bosses, adding that Hamaama’s statement should be a source ahead of next year’s elections.

Njobvu added Hamaamba is being hypocritical and going against the principles of the police service, further saying that his words are unbecoming of a civil servant, especially one in his position.

Njobvu was speaking in an interview in Lusaka.
