Lusaka’s Chilenje Police Station has launched investigations into a case of Obtaining Money by False Pretences, involving $29,737.00.

Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the suspect, identified as Peter Sinkamba, allegedly defrauded a buyer under the pretext of selling 500 grams of gold.

Hamoonga said the complaint was lodged on April 18, 2025, at 16:00 hours by Abel Musonda, 34, of Emmasdale.

He said Musonda reported that Sinkamba, whose address remains unknown, received payment via Binance Wallet for what was claimed to be gold but turned out to be fraudulent.

He said the transactions occurred between March 25 and April 16, 2025, at East Park Mall and Waterfalls, where the complainant, acting on behalf of his China-based brother, sought to purchase and ship three kilograms of gold.

Hamoonga said Sinkamba, allegedly operating under Tontoz Minerals and General Dealers, agreed to a rate of $67,000 per kilogram.

Hamoonga said following a payment of $29,737.00 on April 5, the complainant received what was presented as gold through a shipping agent, Felix Flexon Hangoma.

He said upon verification at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, the airway bill was found to be fake.

Hamoonga said Hangoma, aged 31, of Meanwood Ibex, was apprehended and remains in police custody.

He said authorities are now pursuing Sinkamba while urging the public to exercise caution in high-value mineral transactions.

He said investigations remain ongoing.
