A LUSAKA businesswoman, Janet Mangani (39) and her counterpart Steven Zulu (31), have been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for allegedly using a disabled person’s identity to avoid taxes on a car import.
Mangani, hailing from Six Miles, also working as a coordinator at Zambia Agency for Persons Living with Disabilities (ZAPD), is accused of working with Zulu, a car salesman from Lilayi working at Autocom Zambia, to import a Mazda Demio from Japan in 2020.
They allegedly claimed the car was for Emeldah Chisanga Kabwe, a disabled person, to qualify for a tax exemption.
The ACC head corporate communications, Timothy Moono says Mangani and Zulu used Kabwe’s ID cards to process the import paperwork, knowing the information was false.
He disclosed through a statement that the duo now faces charges of obtaining an advantage by false pretenses.
