Police, ZICTA nab ba Matero scammer
A combined team of officers from the Zambia Information and Technology Authority (ZICTA) and Zambia Police Service last evening utilised the darkness caused by loadshedding to sneak on a notorious Facebook scammer in Lusaka’s Matero Township.
Acting on more than 148 complaints from victims around Lusaka, ZICTA put their various tracking gadgets to use, which eventually led them to 32-year Dixon Gracious Sikongo.
With the backing officers of the of Zambia Police Service, Sikongo was successfully apprehended and booked into Lusaka Central Police cells near the beautiful stay Easy Hotel.
Using Lilayi interrogation tactics, Sikongo is said to have volunteered valuable information of his criminal activities to officers.
Posing as a house owner with a house to rent out, Sikongo is said to have talked desperate house searchers into paying him to secure the accommodation and once payment is made, he ghosts them.
So far, Police have established 310 cases against Sikongo who is said to have resigned his job at Trade Kings to direct all his energies towards his occupation as a scammer.
Operating under a Facebook username; Mirriam Chushi Mweemba, Sikongo revealed that he recruited five people that have been helping him grow his flourishing scamming business.
On being arrested, Sikongo was found with seven mobile phones and 15 simcards.
Although the Zambia Police Service is yet to issue an official statement on the matter, officers working on the case have invited anyone that may have been deceived into paying for a house that they didn’t move in to come forward.
