Lusaka, Zambia – April 30, 2026 – President Hakainde Hichilema has commended Zambian workers across all sectors for their resilience and dedication to national development as the country prepares to commemorate Labour Day.

In his Labour Day Eve message, President Hichilema praised workers in both the public and private sectors, describing them as the backbone of Zambia’s progress.

President HH Salutes Public Servants, Nurses and Teachers

The Head of State paid special tribute to key public service workers such as nurses, teachers and civil servants, acknowledging their continued commitment to serving the nation despite various challenges.
He stated that their hard work remains invaluable to Zambia’s growth and stability.

Recognition of Entrepreneurs and Informal Sector Workers
President Hichilema also extended appreciation to Zambians who have moved from formal employment into entrepreneurship, as well as citizens in the informal sector who contribute significantly to the economy.

He specifically mentioned small-scale farmers, small-scale miners, marketeers, artisans, and transport operators such as minibus, taxi and truck drivers, saying their efforts keep Zambia moving forward.

HH Calls for Unity and Innovation as Zambia Moves Towards 24-Hour Economy

As Zambia advances towards implementing a 24-hour economy, President Hichilema urged citizens to remain guided by innovation, unity, patriotism, and hard work.

He emphasized that Zambia’s development agenda requires sustained effort from all citizens, especially workers whose productivity drives the country’s economic growth.

President Encourages Industrial Harmony and Workplace Safety

President Hichilema further called for industrial harmony, urging employers and employees to promote constructive dialogue, mutual respect, and peace in the workplace.

He also highlighted the importance of maintaining the highest safety standards across all work environments.
