A CHIPATA rapist is on the run after taking advantage and forced himself on a 30-year-old woman who went to view a room to rent

The woman, identified as Chisanga Chimba of Chipata Motel area, had been looking for a new place to stay after receiving an eviction notice from her landlord.

According to Eastern Province police commanding officer Robertson Mweemba, Chimba was desperately searching for a house on Sunday around the Chipata Motel area when she met a couple near the National Parks and Wildlife gate and asked if they knew of any vacant rooms.

The couple took her to a house where rooms were reportedly available for rent.

Upon reaching the house, Chimba heard loud music coming from one of the rooms and knocked on the main door.

A light-skinned man, only identified as “Bashi Beauty”, opened the door and confirmed that there was a vacant room.

He told Chimba that he was moving out which gave her a sigh of relief and prompted her to ask if she could inspect the room.

After showing her the room, the man appeared willing to help her with the accommodation.

Chimba asked for his phone number so that they could keep in touch.

But the man said he did not have a phone and would instead look for a pen so that he could write down the details, however, he asked Chimba to sit and wait.

When he returned, he told her that he had failed to find a pen.

He then asked her to wait a little longer while he put on his shoes so they could leave together and look for a pen along the way.

But police said the situation took a disturbing turn as the man started making sexual advances towards Chimba.

When she tried to flee the facility, the rapist is said to have pinned her down and grabbed her hands as she struggled to free herself, but the suspect overpowered her and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.

After the attack, police said the man released Chimba and offered her some money which she declined.

“Upon going outside, the victim proceeded to report the matter to the next-door neighbour,” Mweemba stated.

She later went to Chipata Central Police Station to formally report the matter and police issued her with a medical report as investigations into the rape commenced.

The suspect, remains at large as police have not yet made an arrest.
