Zambian rights activist Mwiza Zulu has expressed concern over the rising cases of violence and confusion being witnessed during the ongoing nomination process ahead of the country’s general elections.

In a brief but strong statement shared online, MwizaZulu said the incidents recorded so far are worrying and could signal a tense campaign period if authorities fail to act decisively.

“Going by the violence and confusion we’ve seen just at nomination stage, I’m very worried about campaign season. I truly hope law enforcement will be taken seriously,” he said.

His remarks come amid increasing reports of political clashes, disruptions, and confrontations in some parts of Zambia as aspiring candidates file nominations for various elective positions ahead of the August 2026 general elections.

The statement has sparked debate among citizens on social media, with many calling for peace, tolerance, and professionalism from political party supporters during the election period.

Political analysts say the nomination stage is often viewed as an early indicator of how heated the campaign environment could become if tensions are not managed properly.

Recently, President Hakainde Hichilema also warned against electoral violence and lawlessness, stating that individuals involved in acts of intimidation or disorder would face the full force of the law.

Observers have since urged political parties, law enforcement agencies, and the Electoral Commission of Zambia to work together in promoting peaceful campaigns and protecting democratic processes.

Many citizens are now hoping that authorities will strengthen security and ensure that the 2026 elections are conducted in a peaceful, fair, and transparent environment.
