Mr Kasapo Chibesa, of Mwachiyaba Village in Kafue, will be heading to South Korea, following an invitation, motivated by his leadership role in promoting community led development in Kafue District under the Korean supported ‘Saemaul Undong’ project.

The project being piloted in Kafue and Chikankata Districts under the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, is inspired by how that country has used Community led interventions through mindset change and discipline, to improve their communities.

This community-led development model is planned to be domesticated in Zambia under the Ministry, with community members equipped with discipline, commitment and passion, to change their lives, expected to apply personal effort to improve their communities without solely depending on external support.

Mr Chibesa who has been instrumental in mobilizing the community to foster change, will therefore aquire more knowledge and experience when he visits South Korea, next month, in order for him to be more effective in replicating the community-led initiate back home under the project, which is awaiting funding.

And Chikankata district team has organised an exchange programme for them to learn from the Kafue team, who have done exceptionally well, with regards to the execution of the project.

Mr Chibesa received the good news when a team from the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, led by Director for Community Development, Mrs Patricia Muyamwa, inspected Sameul Undong projects in Kafue, were Community members have mobilized to build a fish market to empower women, among other projects that are awaiting funding from Korea.

And Mrs Muyamwa appreciated the community’s hardwork and passion to change their communities for the better, and encouraged others to emulate the mindest change among the Mwachiyaba Community, as it will help them think independently, in order to inculcate values and principles that are centred on long term human development.

And Mr Chibesa, with a great sense of appreciation and gratitude, has accepted the recognition to travel to Korea, which he has described as an encouragement not only at a personal, but also at community level.

He has encouraged communities to embrace hardwork and erase the notion that communities can only thrive through government support.

“This is very encouraging and shows that when you are working, someone will recognize and appreciate your efforts,” he said.

Mr Chibesa has further extended his encouragement to other communities country wide, to work together and inculcate a sense of ownership in order to grow their communities into beautiful places were they can live, work and play.
