SEVEN passengers have been injured this morning after a speeding bus they were on was involved in a road traffic accident on the Great North Road near Ngwerere Roundabout.
Police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said in a statement that the accident occurred around 04:50 hours and involved a Zhongtong bus, registration number BBC 4497, belonging to B.A. Logistics, which was heading towards Chisamba.
He said the bus was being driven by a 31 year old identified as Gift Chitalu.
According to preliminary investigations, the driver lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed.
Chilabi stated that the bus first hit a street light pole on the left side of the road before crashing into a nearby shop.
He explained that all seven passengers on board sustained various injuries and were rushed to Matero Level One Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
“Investigations into the matter are ongoing.”
“The Zambia Police Service wishes to appeal to all motorists to observe road traffic regulations, avoid excessive speed, and always exercise caution to prevent road traffic accidents,” added Chilabi said.
