SPEEDING VEHICLE KILLS TWO CBU STUDENTS

Two Copperbelt University male students identified as Thabo Mumbi aged 21 and Bwalya Christian Henscel 22 have died while the other one not yet identified is admitted to Kitwe Central Hospital after being hit by an over speeding vehicle.

This happened Sunday 25th June 2023 around 21:00 hours when they were walking from campus to their boarding house situated in nkana east.

Provincial police commissioner Peacewell Mweemba identified the driver of the vehicle whose details are not yet known as Easter Aponde aged 26 currently in detention at Nkana East police station.

Mr. Mweemba said the information did not go well with the students who then ran amock between 22:30 and 24:20hrs and blocked jambo drive road in riverside with big stones and burnt some mobile booths nearby.

He said students further looted the shop opposite the main gate and another one inside the campus.
He said the value of the looted property is not yet.

Mr. Mweemba said the students only dispersed after police officers fired some tear smokes on them, further describing the current situation as calm.
