Health Authorities in Mazabuka have cautioned residents against engaging in unsafe sex during the festive holiday.

District Health Director Dr. Stephen Shajanika tells Byta FM News that Mazabuka has recorded an increase in numbers of new Sexually Transmitted Diseases among adolescents, as they are not using condoms.

He however says the Ministry of Health is detecting and treating all sexually transmitted diseases.

Shajanika says sex is a physical need hence the need to use protection.

Statistics indicate that Mazabuka is one the districts with high HIV prevalence rates with Livingstone having the highest in Southern Province.

Meanwhile, Chieftainess Mwenda of Chikankata District has urged the public to celebrate the festive season responsibly and avoid engaging in illicit activities such as alcohol and drug abuse.
