The statement comes after reports of an accident along Ginger Street in Lusaka’s Salama Park area, where a 19-year-old cyclist from Mtendere East was reportedly struck by a Range Rover allegedly involved in an improper overtaking manoeuvre.

According to details attributed to Zambia Police Spokesperson Chipo Kaitisha, the accident occurred at around 17:30 hours. The cyclist sustained a cut on the forehead, multiple bruises to the face and body, as well as general body pains, and was admitted to Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Police also reported that the Range Rover, registration number MG 888, was impounded at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe Police Station pending re-examination by the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA).

A statement had reportedly been recorded from the driver, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident were ongoing.

Shawa’s message has now provided a personal response to the incident, with the public being asked to allow the injured cyclist and his family privacy as he recovers.

The circumstances surrounding the accident remain subject to police investigations.
